Use this to cite sources or hand back links to original SEC documents: every other value we serve traces to a filing, and this tool is how an agent (or the user) gets to the primary document on sec.gov. It returns filing *metadata and links only* — never the document contents; follow the URLs to sec.gov to read a filing. The result is the shared response envelope. `data` holds the company identity (`ticker` — the active symbol, or null when resolved by CIK with no live ticker — `cik`, `company_name`) and the bounded `filings` list; `meta` holds provenance (`source`: "sec-edgar-submissions", and `as_of`, the freshest metadata timestamp on this page); `pagination` holds the cursor paging state. To page, pass `pagination.next_cursor` back as `cursor`; when `pagination.has_more` is false you have reached the oldest filing. Each filing carries `form_type`, `filed_date`, `period_of_report` (the fiscal date it covers — null on event-driven forms like many 8-Ks), `accession_number` (EDGAR's stable filing id), `primary_document_url` (the main document; null for older filings that predate a primary document), and `index_url` (the filing-index page, always present). Filter with `form_type` (exact — see its parameter note on amendments) and the `start`/`end` filing-date window. Results are bounded per page (see the `limit` parameter for the default and maximum). Errors carry a machine `code`: `unknown_entity` for a well-formed ticker/CIK we hold nothing for (resolve the symbol first, or ingest the filer), `bad_parameter` for input the schema can't reject (a non-ticker, non-CIK string or a malformed cursor).
